JINHEE KIM
Organist, Church Musician, Instructor
Organist Jinhee Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea. As the daughter of a choral and orchestral conductor, pursuing a career in organ performance and church music came naturally to her.
A doctoral candidate at IU, Ms. Kim also completed a master’s degree in Organ Performance and Literature at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She earned her Artist Diploma in Organ Performance at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and holds a bachelor’s degree in Church Music (Specialty in Organ) from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where she graduated summa cum laude. Her organ teachers include Christopher Young, James David Christie, Olivier Latry, Tong-Soon Kwak, and Ji-yoen Choi. She also studied Church Music with Bruce Neswick and Robert Nicholls.
Ms. Kim was the First Prize winner of the San Marino National Organ Competition in San Marino, CA, and the Second Prize winner of the Jang-Shin Organ Concour in Seoul, South Korea. She was also cited as a finalist in the Asia Organ Competition in Taipei, Taiwan, and the Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition in Kennett Square, PA. She was a semi-finalist in the 9th Tariverdiev International Organ Competition in Kaliningrad, Russia (the first winner in the American round), and the National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance (NYACOP) in Texas.
Ms. Kim has performed in numerous recitals and concerts as a soloist and with solo instrumentalists, singers, and orchestras. Her international performances include those in the Netherlands and South Korea. In 2008, she was featured in the Rising Stars Concert at the Torch Center for World Missions in Seoul, South Korea. Her US engagements include performances in Naples, FL, San Marino, CA, St. Louis, MO, Portland, OR, Atlanta, GA, and throughout Ohio and Indiana.
As Associate Instructor at Indiana University, Ms. Kim taught elective and secondary organ lessons and conducted studio classes. She also led guided tours of the interior of IU Auer Hall’s Fisk, Op. 135 instrument, educating students on its construction and unique features.
Ms. Kim currently serves as Associate Director of Music and Organist at Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
